Appearance and Properties
Appearance: Light yellow to tan powder or crystals
Melting Point: >300℃
Solubility: Solubility in water is approximately 2.5 g/L (at 20℃). Soluble in hot water, ammonia water and alkaline solutions; insoluble in alcohols and ethers.
Other Properties: Tautomerism (keto-enol form) exists.
Main Applications & Upstream-Downstream Chain
It serves as an organic synthesis intermediate for the production of various pyrimidine derivatives. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to manufacture sulfonamide drugs (e.g., sulfamonomethoxine). It also acts as a key intermediate in the synthesis of Vitamin B4, antitumor agents and adjuvant drugs.
Upstream Raw Materials: Typically diethyl/dibutyl malonate and formamide (under cyclization conditions with alkali metal alkoxides or bases present)
Downstream Products: Including pyrimidine-based intermediates such as 4,6-dichloropyrimidine and 4,6-diamino-5-nitropyrimidine, as well as certain pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediates.
