As a dibasic acid, hyper phosphoric acid is slightly more acidic than phosphoric acid. It exhibits strong reducing properties, high hygroscopicity and deliquescence. It is prone to slow oxidation in air to form orthophosphoric acid, and decomposes when heated to 180℃ to produce highly toxic phosphine gas.
In the industrial field, hyper phosphoric acid serves as a core raw material for manufacturing phosphites, pesticide intermediates and organophosphorus water treatment chemicals. It can also be used as a whitening agent for nylon, a stabilizer for polycarbonate and an antioxidant for nylon 1010.
In terms of safety, it is classified as a Class II inorganic acidic corrosive substance with the hazard code 93014. It is highly corrosive to the skin and eyes, so protective equipment must be worn during handling. For storage, it should be kept in a cool and well-ventilated place, away from alkalis, flammable substances and oxidizing agents.
